About the Artist
Maria is an employee of Ft. Myers Toyota, and a local Cuban artist raised in Philadelphia, but a native of Florida since 1998. Art talent showed in 2nd grade when she won 1st place in a school art contest, beating out all grades up through 8th. With years of art training at the High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and at the Art Alliance in Fort Myers, her art work is bold and dynamic. She has been drawing and painting as a hobby for over 30 years, selling a few pieces over the years. Most of her art work focuses on human figure drawings, but it’s as diverse in medium as it is in subject matter.
About the Charity
Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971. Today, Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols.
