FORT MYERS, Florida--February 5th 2010--Ft. Myers Toyota, "The Family Store," is showing their support for the ArtFest Fort Myers by once again becoming a supporting sponsor. This is the fourth year in a row they have sponsored the art festival.

The dealership will be displaying vehicles, staff will be on hand to answer questions, and there will be a fun "Create Your Dream Toyota" activity for children. Ft. Myers Toyota will display hand-painted rocking chairs to raise funds and awareness for 14 different local charities. These rocking chairs were used in a wildly successful promotion called "ROCK For Charity ROLL with a Ride(tm)." The public is invited to visit www.FmToyota.com to place bids online for these one-of-a-kind chairs and learn more about the charities they represent.

ArtFest Fort Myers is Southwest Florida's premier fine art festival, and the festival will be held Feb. 6-7, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in downtown Fort Myers on Edwards Drive, along the riverfront between Heitman and Lee Streets. Every year, Fort Myers' waterfront becomes an open air art gallery overflowing with exceptional artwork, fun entertainment complete with childrens art activities. Continuous background music and savory food give the fine art festival its enjoyable atmosphere.

Artists will feature unique sculpture, oil paintings, watercolors, jewelry, decorative ceramics, mixed media, photography, fiber and glass-, metal- and woodwork created by 200 talented artists gathered from around the world. Only the best artists have been invited, after a panel of independent artists reviewed the work of the artists who applied for the festival.

ArtFest Fort Myers will include:

  • The Art Under 20 competition--the largest Lee County high school art competition and exhibition which provides talented student artists the unique opportunity to exhibit their work to 60,000 ArtFest Fort Myers patrons. $6,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the best student artists. Ft. Myers Toyota will be the host of the award reception for the competition which has 290 students competing from 15 different high schools.
  • Kids@Art--a collaborative effort of ArtFest Fort Myers and The Alliance For The Arts, which helps eager "weekend artists" of all ages to tap into their best creativity. Supplies and child supervision is provided to all who wish to participate.
  • The Young Art Collectors Gallery--a "kids only" art gallery for children ages 6 to 12 where they can purchase artwork donated by festival artists for only $5.
  • The Youth Stage--which gives a variety of free performances throughout the weekend. Among others, Florida Rep Theatre, Colours Dance School, Southwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Celtic Arts dancers will be showcasing their talent.
  • The Southwest Florida Symphony--which will be on hand with a Petting Zoo. A variety of musical instruments will be available for all to play, with expert instruction on hand, courtesy of the Youth Symphony members.

ArtFest Fort Myers supports the visual arts and literacy in Lee County through a variety of special exhibits and programs:

  • The Art Supply Grant Program invites Lee County public elementary school art teachers to apply for funds that can be tailored to each classroom’s specific need.
  • The News-Press "Newspaper In Education Program" is supported through sales of ArtFest Fort Myers Commemorative Posters. In 2009, over 246,000 local newspapers were delivered to Lee County classrooms as a direct result of festival poster sales.
  • The Visiting Artist Program places festival artists in middle school art classrooms for a day, either before or after ArtFest Fort Myers, where they share their talents and life experiences with our students.
  • The "Best of the Next" gives a select number of FGCU emerging art students an opportunity to pursue a career in the arts. This program is designed to promote up-and-coming artists, giving them the real world experience of displaying, and marketing their work in an outdoor art festival venue.
  • The Art Under 20 Award Reception will be held at Ft. Myers Toyota Truck Center in March.

There will be a preview party on Feb. 5, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for which tickets are available. Admission to ArtFest Fort Myers is FREE due to generous sponsor support. Parking is available at adjacent parking lots, street parking and city garages will be open
