FORT MYERS, Florida-- February 2, 2010--Ft. Myers Toyota, "The Family Store," hopes to open it's service department doors round the clock for its customers to deal with vehicles included in the sticky pedal recall as parts availability allows.

Customer recall notifications directly from Toyota Motor Sales are underway via first class mail. It's anticipated that parts for affected recall vehicles will arrive sometime this week. As parts become available, Ft. Myers Toyota is are prepared to operate on a round-the-clock basis, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have 105 service bays and sufficient staff available to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Toyota vehicle owners are encouraged to learn the facts about the recall issue online or by talking to representatives from Ft. Myers Toyota--because of this situation, other car dealerships and automakers may attempt to prey on their fears by de-valuing their vehicles and trying to trade owners out of them. These people know that Toyota's hold their value and this will pass. Since 2008, Ft. Myers Toyota has had a no-obligation appraisal service even offering to buy vehicles for cash if owners want to sell outright and not trade.

Ft. Myers Toyota states that the "sticky" accelerator pedal recall/stop sale issued on January 26th, 2010 is a separate issue from the floor mat interference with the accelerator pedal issue announced last Fall.

They state that the sticky pedal issue has to do with an issue involving a friction device in a CTS accelerator pedal. On rare occasions, problems may arise due to the materials used, wear and environmental conditions. Friction in the pedal operation may cause it to slowly return to idle or, on rare occasions, stick in place. If you encounter this situation while driving, you should:

  1. Apply firm steady pressure to the brakes
  2. Put the car into neutral
  3. Come to a safe stop off the road
  4. Then remove the key from the ignition

The key SHOULD NOT be removed while the car is moving, as it will cause the steering wheel to lock.

Pamela Templeton, Vice President of Ft. Myers Toyota, states, "We would like to thank our customers for their patience, support and understanding. We are honored to serve you, encouraged and grateful for continued sales that allowed us to meet our January objectives. We still have over 300 new and 250 pre-owned vehicles inspected and unaffected by the sticky pedal recall."

She continues, "As the facts are understood by our customers and resolution of these recall issues are handled, we are confident that Toyota Motor Sales' swift action and unprecedented response will reaffirm the quality, safety and value which the Toyota brand represents. I am, to this day, still confident in driving my Toyota. My husband, children, other family members, friends and associates are also still driving their Toyota's."
