FORT MYERS, Florida--February 1, 2010-- Ft. Myers Toyota "The Family Store," has dedicated itself to the safety of their drivers and the public and urges all car owners to check to make sure that their floor mats are not interfering with their accelerator pedals.
The issue of floor mats interfering with accelerator pedals affects some of the 2004-2010 Toyota models. Toyota states that the potential exists for an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat to move forward or bunch up, therefore interfering with the accelerator pedal. Customers should heed the following advice:
- Do not use improper or aftermarket mats
- Do not stack floor mats on top of each other
- Do not flip the floor mat upside down
- Make sure to use the clips designed to secure the mats to the floorboard
Toyota has determined that this problem does not exist in vehicles in which the driver’s side floor mat is compatible with the vehicle and is properly secured.
Toyota vehicle owners are encouraged to learn the facts about the floor mat/accelerator pedal interference issue by going online to Toyota.com or talking to representatives from Ft. Myers Toyota. Because of this situation, other car dealerships and automakers are attempting to prey on their fears by undervaluing their vehicles and trying to trade owners out of them for far less than they are worth. These automakers and car dealerships know that Toyotas hold their value and that this will pass. Since 2008, Ft. Myers Toyota has had a no-obligation appraisal service, even offering to buy cars for cash, no matter if the customer is trading in or not.
Pamela Templeton said "The tragedy of this floor mat/accelerator pedal interference issue is that it is completely avoidable by using the proper mat for your vehicle and using the clips to secure it. Absent that, leave it out! I am, to this day, still confident in driving my Toyota. My husband, children, other family members, friends and associates are also still driving their Toyotas."
