Ft. Myers Toyota Sponsors "Race 2 the Finish" to Help Complete Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center Building

When finished, the historic Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center will provide more than 23,000 square feet of exhibition, classroom and event rental space. The grand design will feature eight stone columns, marble and granite floors, decorative plaster ceilings, atriums, classrooms and two rooftop sculpture gardens.

The gala benefit will feature an array of cars, motor sports-themed fundraising activities, delicious barbecue, an open bar and musical performance by Clint Wiley’s band, None Other. First Street and the Art Center will be transformed into the highlight race track where race cars and their drivers will be showcased.

Says Pamela Templeton, Vice President of Ft. Myers Toyota, “This is the fifth year we’ve participated in the annual gala to benefit the Art Center. We’re working to improve our historic downtown community by ensuring that the Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center restoration moves forward. The building has been at the heart of downtown Ft. Myers since 1933 and remains critical to the renaissance of the River District. In all of Southwest Florida it is a one of a kind historical gem. This event will be quite out of the ordinary; race wear is encouraged. It is going to be one of the best parties in town as usual; cool, casual and fun!”

Auction items include a private tour of the Joe Gibbs Racing Team Headquarters in Henderson, North Carolina, just north of Charlotte. The winning bidder can take up to 10 people on a private tour of the facility. They will get a chance to see how the Joe Gibbs Racing Team does things first-hand. Other auction items also include a Silver Halide Archive Print titled “Edge of Time,” by world-renowned photographer Peter Lik.

The Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center seeks to nurture excellence and innovation in the visual and performing arts through presentation, education and reaching out to the community while promoting arts and culture to current and future generations in Southwest Florida. Currently, the Art Center has raised $3.5 million and needs another $2 million to finish construction.
