Fort Myers Car Dealer, Fort Myers Toyota, Makes Strides Against Breast Cancer for 8th Consecutive Year

On October 17, 2009, The Fort Myers Car Dealer, Fort Myers Toyota team once again participated in the 8th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Five-Kilometer Walk/Run of Lee County, held by the American Cancer Society at Centennial Park in downtown Ft. Myers.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run is an event to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. It celebrates those who survive the disease and gives people an occasion to express their hope. The event supports all those who share the goal of ending a disease that threatens so many. Teams of walkers and folks of all ages participated. The walk began at 8:15 a.m. and ended at Oasis Restaurant for the Ft. Myers Toyota team walkers.

Pamela Templeton, Vice President of Ft. Myers Toyota, came in as the #1 Top Participant for the second year running and the Ft. Myers Toyota team received #2 Top Company as well as the #2 Top Team for the amount of money they raised.

Says Templeton, "Nearly everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way. Hope starts one walker and one dollar at a time. Hope starts with our team and hope can start with YOU. This event was a way to honor breast cancer survivors, remember people we've lost and raise funds and awareness to help end this disease."

She continues, "Our Ft. Myers Toyota Family Store has come together each year for the past eight years in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run. The entire event raised a total of $71,222.46. Templeton herself raised a total of $3,530 while the Ft. Myers Toyota Team raised a total of $5,840.

About Making Strides Against Breast Cancer:
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event was started by Margery "Margie" Gould Rath who wanted to find a way to celebrate fellow cancer survivors, honor those lost and raise money for the American Cancer Society. The first event was held in Boston with 200 participants and became an annual event. It became officially known as the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and has drawn nearly five million walkers and raised more than $340 million since its inception. Margie dedicated her time to volunteering for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer until she lost her fight with the disease in 2001. But her legacy lives on and reminds us that each of us can make a difference, make history and make strides!
